MEMORIAL UXBRIDGE ONTARIO HERITAGE MURAL PAINTED IN 2001
This mural was painted with acrylic latex on fourteen 4' X 7' panels, making the entire piece 28' X 14'
Close-up 1

I really liked working on this mural for the sheer amount of detail and variety of characters that were available to work from within the old photograph that I found through the Uxbridge Historical Society. Someone told me that they used very large negatives back then. I kept enlarging smaller areas with the scanner again and again and was surprised to note how much detail I could glean.

While paying close attention to what was visible in the photo, there was much room for latitude and invention.

I like the concept that, in any crowd of people, in any given situation, some will be clear and some are out of focus

Of the seventy five or so people in this painting, only one of them is not wearing a hat.
